Jamaican Wedding Cake Alternatives

Simply called 'fruit cake' the traditional Jamaican wedding cake is a dark cake made with lots of fruit (dried raisins, prunes, cherries, currants, etc) marinated in wine and may include some rum as well, depending on your taste. A fondant finish decorated with fresh flowers, fruits or sugary ornaments completes the look.

However, Jamaican brides have been breaking with tradition, and are opting for other cake varieties such as black forest, red velvet, cheese cake, chocolate or vanilla flavors. Yet still, some couples are just not into fondant, sugary icing, silver balls or even cake at all! If you're looking beyond the traditional wedding cake, here are some alternatives that we love for Jamaican weddings:

Cupcakes
Cupcakes are fun alternatives and a cupcake tower, as seen below, can also become a focal point at your wedding. Cupcakes allow you to incorporate various flavors, colors and shapes in the presentation. A regular cake can be included in the tower, if you wish to have a little of both worlds.

Mini Desserts or Dessert Bar
Serve a variety of bite-sized pastry during the last course of your reception meal or have them displayed at an attractively decorated dessert station. We recommend cream puffs, mini gizzadas, french macaroons, cookies, brownie bites, mini cupcakes, meringues, coconut or peanut drops, and mini tarts.

Tiered Cookie, Macaroon or Donut Tower
There are plenty of options to choose from and get really stylish for your wedding. Cream filled cookies, macaroons, fruity pin wheels or chocolate chip are all popular selections. Frosted donuts can match your theme colour.

Dessert Shots
Any dessert you like can be turned into a dessert shot. Using shot glasses, these colourful and delectable parfait are a perfect alternative to a slice of cake on a plate. Think chocolate mousse, vanilla pudding, key lime, strawberry shortcake.

Pie
If you're having a small wedding, you don't have to follow the rules. And who doesn't love a good pie? To add variety, try a different flavor for each tier. A pie table is also another option.

If you want to venture way outside the box, other alternatives include, ice cream, waffles, pancakes, truffles, crepes.

Let's face it. A traditional wedding cake will never go out of style. However, your wedding day is a perfect opportunity to share your tastes with your guest. So don't be afraid to flaunt your unique style with a wedding cake that says something about you.
