1. Use one type of flower such as Carnations or Baby's Breath instead of Roses or Calla Lilies. Bunch them together to get that full effect. It's also better to select one colour from your colour scheme for the carnations and use that throughout the decor. Use lots of candles around them. Do the same centerpieces for head tables and guest tables so your guests don't think you're being a cheapskate.
2. Bigger buds mean fewer stems to purchase. While not the cheapest, Hydrangea blooms are so voluminous and give you more bang for your buck. Best of all, they can be incorporated into any floral arrangement from bouquets and aisle markers to centerpieces. Though not popular, the Sunflower is also a great option.
3. The size of your containers will affect your flower budget. The larger the container the more flowers you will have to use. Choose smaller containers or bud vases. Don't forget the candles!
5. Selecting blooms that are in-season and readily available in your area is another way of keeping that flower cost under control. Jamaican brides, in particular, have been opting for blooms such as Anthuriums, Bird of Paradise, Hibiscus among others. Don't be afraid to discuss local options with florist.
Celebrity wedding designer, Colin Cowie once said "beauty isn't about cost, it's about the look and style you make your own".
